Abraham Minchew (or Minshew) (b: October 12, 1773) was one of the earliest settlers of Ware County Georgia having moved there about 1825. He was the son of Abraham Minchew, Sr. (b: 1739). The family moved to Effingham County, Ga. about the time of the commencement of the Revolution or soon thereafter, and settled in the part made in 1793 into Screven Co., so that Abraham grew to manhood there during those troubled years.
Screven Co. deed records show that Mr. Minchew bought 200 acres of land on Bonnell's Branch there, May 13, 1796, from John Hendricks (Deed book A, p. 252). He moved about 1813-14 to Emmanuel Co., Ga. where he ws granted 200 acres on the Canoochee River in 1814, also, 211 acre tract on the same stream. He lived there until about 1825 when he moved to Ware County, Ga. Abraham Minchew is shown in the 1840Census for Ware Co., Ga, Dist. 584, p 143A when he was between the ages of 60 and 70 years old. He lived in the 5th land district of Ware until his death.
He and his wife, Fannie Shackleford (b: Dec 7, 1777) were buried in a family buring-ground, now abandoned, on their old home-place in Ware county, Ga. Both graves are marked but along with other graves there, are in a sad state of neglect.
