Article in Chattanooga Daily Times 5/15/1929: Luther Hurst was held to criminal court under $500 bond today at a preliminary hearing on a charge of possessing whiskey by Squire T.A. Christman at Harriman. Officers claim that in a search in the yard of Hurst's home they found eight gallons of liquor. Hurst denied any knowledge of its being in his yard. James Smith, held jointly with Hurst, was released at the hearing. Hurst was returned to jail in default of bond.
