John is the son of Quinton Pray and Joanna Valliance,was born and bapitized in Frant,Sussex,England.He came with his family to Braintree,MA. to be part of the new Iron Works Industry of which he and the males in the family followed in their father's footsteps. They were a more"earthy" type of people and the family was in trouble several times for things we would think nothing of today but in the Puritan era was very offensive.

He was united in marriage to Joanna Downam on 7 May 1657,she being the daughter of John and Dorothy(--) Downam.they are the parents of ten children,all born in Braintree.

After John died she remarried Daniel Livingston and went to York,York Co.,ME. with Joanna's three youngest children and established the Pray family in York Co.,ME.

On 20 Aug 1694 Daniel was killed by Indians in an attack on York near the Maxwell garrison where he lived. The family moved to Kittery and settled there.
