Was in Hampton early in the later half of the 17th century. In 1674 John conveyed to Stephen Hussey his property on Nantucket, bequeathed him by his father, "John Smith, of the Vineyard, deceased." He lived on Martha's Vinyard, Mass. before he came to Hampton. Originally had a birth date of 1644, which is incorrect I believe. The LDS says he died in Nantucket, Mass. The LDS church also has a record of him being married to Sarah Hunt. This is questionable and think it might be the same Sarah as married his father, John Smith. Don't know. Maybe he did marry a Sarah Hunt.
The LDS church has several death dates for John Smith. One is 10 June 1643 and the other is 13 Oct 1687. I also question his marriage to Joanah (Bland) (Smith) Wannerton. and did not add in his marriage to Isabel Smith who was born in 1595, and by whom the LDS church said he had Isabel, and Anabel, who were born before he was. Impossible.
The LDS church has him married to Isabel Smith before he was born. I believe she goes to another John Smith. I originally had him married to a Huldad Hussey, but I changed that. His son, John Smith, married her according to the "History of Martha's Vinyard", p. 441.

Hampton, about 1640; wife Deborah, a near relation and legatee of Mrs. Ruth Dalton. Removed to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. His daughter Deborah married Nathaniel Bacheller; his son John, cooper, of Hamp, sold to his brother in law Stephen Hussey, 9 June 167, one half of all the lands belonging to him on the island of Nantucket, "as owned by my father John Smith late of the Vineyard deceased".
He made will 14 Feb 1670; bequeathed his land on Nantucket to sons John and Samuel, who were to pay to their sisters Deborah and Abigail 5 pounds apiece; all his land at "Martin's Vineyard" to son Philip, not then in good health; wife Deborah executrix; friends Mr. Thomas Mayhew and Thomas Macy overseers.
The book "History of Martha's Vinyard" said he was the ancestor of one Smith family on the Island. No relationship to the other (Smith's) is known. He first settled at Watertown 1634, where he married Deborah Parkhurt. He removed to Hampton, N.H. 1644 and to Edgartown 1653. He died about 1670 and his wife Deborah was appointed executrix of his will which was dated 14 Feb 1670. Have a copy of his will. Found in the History of Martha's Vinyard, Annals of Edgartown.
Originally had a marriage date of 1643, but the book the "Annals of Meredith, New Hampshire" has a marriage date of 1634. It also has a date of his will as February 14, 1670, which is different.. Could there be two John Smiths who married Deborah Parkhurst? This book has him born at Dorking, England. He was mentioned in the iformation of "Company of the Plough" of London. which was formed in 1630 which was of a religious nature, and their leader was Stephen Batchelder. Their plans were to come to America, but did not get away until 1632, and after arriving in American they made several attempts to plant their colony, with rather indifferent success in several places, but the original settlement was at Hampton, New Hampshire during nine years of trials. John Smith, with others, first settled at Hampton, but shortly afterward he and Christopher Hussey removed to Marthas Vineyard, and all later references to him is referred to as John Smith of Nantucket or John Smith of Martha's Vineyard. He was one of the heads of sixteen families named John Smith who settled in Massachusetts prior to 1650
John Smith, circa 1638 married Deborah Parkhurst who was born about 1615 in England. John first sewttled at Watertown, Ma where he married Deborah's Aunt Ruth (Leete) Daultyon, wife of Timothy Dalton, then lived. The earliest record found at Edgartown, Ma relating to John is dated 6 Jiune 1654 when he was chosen as one of the magistrate's assistants. He was part of the Edgartown train band in 1662, and his name is mention in the town records in 1660. 1663, and 1664, either as drawing lots in the various division of the common land, or in other minor connections. After that he is believed to have moved to Nantucket to spend his decling years. His house lot was on Tower Hill, just north of the cemetery and was willed to his son Phillip. From "George Parkhurst Increasings for nine generations, vol. 1, by Peter G. Parkhurst, c1996.
