Biota of Maine, who died in 1063 , was Countess of Maine from 1062 to 1063 . She was the family of Hugonides , daughter of Herbert Wake-Dog I , Count of Maine.

His first name is, it seems, is a form of hypocoristic Bilichildis name, common in houses in Maine , a translation into Latin of the vernacular form.

She married Gautier III , Count of Vexin and Amiens , but had no children.

In March 1062 , his nephew Herbert II died bequeathing the county of Maine to William the Conqueror , but the lords mainois revolted and chose as Count Walter and Biota, with support from the Count of Anjou Geoffrey III the Bearded . William the Conqueror began the conquest of the county, taking the fortresses one by one and finally took the Le Mans . Gautier and Biota were captured and held Falaise , where they died shortly after under suspicious circumstances.
