Note
Prydein (Brydain), son, may be identified with GM's Brutus II "Green-Shield", upon whose death
the kingdom [Northern England] was divided into three parts by his three sons, (a) Annyn "Tro", LINE-A (b) Leil "Ici", LINE-B, & (c) Evalh "Cor", LINE-C:
Legendary founder of Britain in what is assumed a pre-Brutus tradition.
In "Enweu ynys prydein", it is said that the island of Britain was settled before Prydein, but upon his settlement, the name of the island was changed to Prydein. This is similar to the story of Brutus, of course, since the theme of invasion is endemic (and logical) to founding tales of the British Isles.
In Lebor Gabala Erenn, Prydain is called Britain Mael--"Prince Britain"--and his father is Fergus Red-Side, son of Nemed. The text indicates that the Irish did consider the Britons as related to the Irish, however distantly, as Nemed was ancestor to the Fir Bolg, Tuatha De Danann, and more distantly the Milesians.
No authentic traditions survive regarding Prydein; Iolo Morgannwg invented a number of traditions regarding Prydein's establishment of bardism in Britain, but this is his usual spurious creation.

Title
Aedd Mawr ("Addedo the Great") held the title legendary founder of Britain.
Note
Aedd, whose name is an abbreviation of a name beginning with "Aedd…". His epithet "Mawr" [= "The Great"] suggests that the legends about him in Celtic Mythology may have an historical basis .
note: In a medieval genealogical tract Aedd Mawr is called the son of Anthun, which is the British spelling of "Anthony", thus, it has been conjectured that Aedd Mawr was the "barbarian king" whom Antonia, dau of Mark Anthony [the Roman general & triumvir, who supposedly also campaigned in Britain] divorced to marry an "eastern king" [Pytho of Tralles]. The gloss in the tract where the first-century BC figure Anthun is called the son of "Seiriol [Seisyllt] ap Gurgust", who appears as a sixth-century AD British figure in the "Gwyr-y-Gogledd Genealogy" is an error made by a medieval genealogist who must have been attempting to reconcile various genealogical data. It appears that Aedd "Mawr" re-married, for the name of his wife in legend is Caer, which is similar in spelling to Cesair, one of three in Celtic Mythology who bore that name. It is upon this basis that she is identified with Caesara, the supposed natural daughter of Julius Caesar and the British Queen Cordelia.
Father of Prydein, legendary founder of Britain (Prydein) in myths that likely date to before the introduction of Brutus. Nothing else is known of him from Welsh sources, and he only appears in a few genealogies. The name may be Irish, where aed means "fire", and is a byname of An Dagda.
Alternately, he may be a folk memory of Addedomarus (or A??edomarus), king of the Trinobantes ca. 20-15 BCE, known from numistatic sources. If Aedd Mawr is Addedomarus, this would not be the only medieval Welsh figure whose origin can be traced to tribal Britain.
In Lebor Gabala Erenn, the father of Prydain (there called "Prince Britain") is Fergus Red-Side.
++++++++++++++++
Addedomarus was a king of south-eastern Britain in the late 1st century BC. His name is known only from his inscribed coins, the distribution of which seem to indicate that he was the ruler of the Trinovantes.
He was the first king to produce inscribed coins north of the Thames, perhaps as early as 35 BC, although some estimates are as late as 15 BC. He seems to have moved the Trinovantian capital from Braughing in Hertfordshire to Camulodunum (Colchester, Essex). For a brief period (ca. 15-10 BC) he seems to have been supplanted by Tasciovanus of the Catuvellauni, who issued coins from Camulodunum at that time. Addedomarus then appears to have regained power and reigned until 10-5 BC, when he was succeeded by Dubnovellaunus.
Addedomarus appears in later, post-Roman and medieval British Celtic genealogies and legends as Aedd Mawr (Addedo the Great).[citation needed] The Welsh Triads recall Aedd Mawr as one of the founders of Britain.
